Grad Student Info Wanted

August 7, 2009 EGSA Digests Event Flyers/Reminders 0

Dear EGSA folk,

I hope your summer is going well! I anticipate a quick trip to Maryland immediately before the semester begins so I will not see many of you before the new school year begins.

We will hold our first EGSA meeting sometime in September. Bethany Bear, our illustrious new secretary, will be speaking on my behalf at the new student EGSA orientation (since Mary Kolner, our newly-engaged vice president, will also be gone during that time). You should receive an email later this month from Margy Thomas, our orientation chair, concerning the orientation. Primarily, you will be interested in the dessert social preceding the orientation, a time for greeting and mixing with the new grad students – inducting them into our curious cadre of English-bent minds.

IF YOU GRADUATED during the Spring/Summer 2009 commencements, congratulations! May your time in the outside world be all that you want and more. You should not appear on the attached file, but if you do, feel free to send me a nasty email protesting my oversight.

IF YOU DID NOT GRADUATE, please read on. I am trying to compile a list of all English graduate students who will still be enrolled in the fall. (I will add new students to the list when the newbies arrive this fall.) Please check over the attached file and let me know if I have any info wrong.

Note especially:
1) If you began here in 2006 or earlier, check your year of entry. I am differentiating between 2006 students and anyone earlier (designated as 2005) to try to make sure people don’t fall through the cracks.
2) If you know your expected graduation date, that would be helpful. If not, that’s why I’ve asked for your dates/degrees of entry and your degree program.
3) If you want to give your areas of interest (at least American 1 or 2 or British 1 or 2), that would be nice. I will eventually make the complete list available to all grad students so that you can easily locate other students with similar interests.
4) IF YOU DO NOT APPEAR ON THE LIST, I have NONE of your info. It is not that I don’t like you. 🙂

Thanks in advance for replying. Have a great remainder of the summer!

Cheers, Steve

P.S. If you know of someone who has been left off the list, please forward this email to them.
P.P.S. I didn’t know this email was going to be so long. I apologize for eating up a small chunk of your summer.
