EGSA Digest 5.6.2010

May 6, 2010 EGSA Digests 0

Since the dawn of time, people have been stressed out during finals week. A plethora of papers must be written and graded, but the reason why it is hard to do all this work is because texting has eroded the verbal skills the older generations think we should have. However, if you take the time to read this digest, we can overcome and create a better world. Just as we have conquered racism, sexism, fatalism, geocentrism, optimism, immoralism, and siderism, so shall we overcome all obstacles between us and our seminar papers, final exams, and grading.

This week, please kindly

FEAST at this Saturday’s End-of the Year Picnic. Denise Galloway has provided the following information about the picnic:

Dear Friends,
Whether you’re celebrating the end of the semester or just need a break while writing/grading (everyone needs to eat!),
come to the EGSA picnic!

This Saturday at 1 pm at Cameron Park in Redwood Shelter on Cameron Park Drive.

We will provide meat and any necessary condiments, buns, etc., as well as iced tea and water. I do need volunteers to help with grilling!

Please bring a dish to pass (either a side dish such as salad, chips, fruit, veggies, dip or a dessert). If you would like soda, lemonade, or juice, etc., feel free to bring some along.

Bring your family and friends along.

Direct any suggestions or questions to Denise Galloway (denise_galloway@baylor.edu)

See you then!

SIGN thank-you cards for our EGSA advisors, Drs. Russell and Hanks. They have been very supportive this year, and especially this week. Cards are in the Writing Center, so stop by and write a word of thanks when you have a moment.

TAKE heart. This has been a hard week, but grace abounds. I’ll leave you with a prayer from Thomas Aquinas that gives me encouragement in all my work, but especially during frantic, weary weeks such as these:

Ineffable Creator,

You who are the true source of life and wisdom and the Principle on which everything depends, be so kind as to infuse in my obscure intelligence a ray of your splendor that may take away the darkness of sin and ignorance.

Grant me keenness of understanding, ability to remember, measure and easiness of learning, discernment of what I read, rich grace with words.

Grant me strength to begin well my studies; guide me along the path of my efforts; give them a happy ending.

You who are true God and true Man, Jesus my Savior, who lives and reigns forever.

Amen

Thomas Aquinas (published in the Raccolta #764, Pius XI Studiorum Ducem, 1923). Translated by Davy Carozza (http://brewright.blogspot.com/2007/04/scholars-prayer.html)
