EGSA Digest 11.30.12

November 30, 2012 EGSA Digests 0

EGSA,
I was having trouble distinguishing announcements from events today.

Things, and stuff

Important Dates

  • Last day of classes: Mon., 3 Dec.
  • Study days: 4-5 Dec.
  • Finals: 6-12 Dec.
  • Commencement: Sat., 15 Dec.
  • Somewhere in there, you probably have some seminar papers due, so you may want to start thinking about those.

Important Social Event

  • Tea and refreshments will be served today from 2:30-3:30pm in CS 4th floor lounge.
  • Go try to hear people talk above the din, nod for a while, and then go sneak some more treats.

Important Note from Dr. Walden

  • Because I wasn’t able to attend the EGSA’s Spring Registration Q&A last month, I wanted to take a second to remind everyone about my Early American Literature seminar next semester. The focus of the course is the early American novel — and the ways in which its rise mirrored, and threatened, the rise of the American republic. While I know many of you are focusing in areas that seem miles away from early America, one of the major organizational frameworks of our study—the role of academics in society—will be more than useful for whatever field you focus in. Our consideration and use of digital media in thinking about the cultural history of American society engages perhaps one of the most interesting, and pressing, questions for scholars in the humanities today. Even if you don’t think you’re interested in the origins of the American novel, the theoretical and practical concepts we use in this class should be increasingly useful as you pursue your own research and think about your future career. There are still 7 spots open — I’d love to have a full and vibrant class!
  • If you have any questions or want some more specific information about the class, don’t hesitate to email me (dan_walden@baylor.edu) or stop by my office when I’m around (CS 415). Here’s the course info: ENG 5391 — Monday 4:00 – 7:00 pm

Important Party

  • By now you know of Jim’s recent dilemma, Maggie’s betrayal, and J’s emotional instability.
  • What you may not know is that the Watsons are hosting a Christmas party and you are invited to attend.
  • Saturday, 8 December, 7:00pm
  • 3821 Lasker Ave., Waco
  • You could wear running shorts with an oversized T-shirt, and they’d still let you in.

It should go without saying that nothing in the Digest is unimportant. It really should.
