Today’s Digest will rapidly start to feel like an exercise in hyperlinks. Click them. Click them all.

Fall Party, Saturday, 9/20
  • Turn up at 601 Dyer Ave around 7 PM
  • Obtain entry using the secret password (“I brought food/drink!”)
  • Fancy dress. This is American fancy dress (dress up fancy) rather than British fancy dress (dress in a costume).
  • Significant others, children, other persons who share your abode welcome. Furry children are not. (Pets. I mean pets. Don’t bring your pets. I’m not discriminating against actual children with fur.)

Parent-Faculty Coffee, Saturday, 9/20
  • 9:30-11 AM, Fountain Mall
  • All current TAs, remember your obligation: to stand on Fountain Mall and make awkward small talk while waiting for a wayward parent to drift by and interrogate you about your pedagogical practices/fish for praise about their child.
  • Also, pick up your nametags in the English office.
  • (Knew there was something I forgot to do today.)
TeaCHE
  • If you would like to complete the Teaching Capstone in Higher Education (TeaCHE, nice backronym), the intent to participate form is due by Sept 22.
  • For what it’s worth, this goes on your transcript so that employers know you are one super legit teacher.
  • Final project due by April 17, 2015.
  • More information on TeaCHE here.
  • Intent to Participate form here.

SET Seminar, Wednesday, 9/24
  • “Designing Writing: How to Create Meaningful and Engaging Writing Assignments”
  • Taught by Kara Poe Alexander (English)
  • 3:35 to 4:35 PM, Jones Library 200 (that time is designed to keep you on your toes)
  • “Writing Designer” sounds like a much better title than “English Teacher,” doesn’t it?
  • Fregister here.
MRRS, Friday, 9/26
  • Dr. Nancy Warren, Chair of the English Department at Texas A&M
  • “‘Flying from the Depravities of Europe, to the American Strand’: Chaucer and the Chaucer Tradition in Early America.”
  • If you are fleeing depravity, but bringing along Chaucer with all his fart jokes and sexy medieval shenanigans, have you actually been reading Chaucer? Find out!
  • 2:30 PM, Cox Lecture Hall, Armstrong Browning Library
  • Refreshments to follow.
SET Seminar, Friday, 9/26
  • “Digital Media Workshop” led by Joanna Schmidt and Jay Stroup of TCU’s Media Writing Studio
  • 3:00-4:00 PM in Carroll Science G-09
  • Learn how to produce short videos so that you can look technologically savvy when you teach your students to do the same.
  • Also you will then feel like less of a fraud when you boast of your computer skills on your CV.
  • Fregister here.
PROFF Workshop, Monday, 9/29

That should do it. Have a link for the road.

Bon weekend,

Mme. Secretary
