EGSA Digest 10.12.12
EGSA,
Announcements
Meet the Parents
- If you’re teaching, the parents of your little Baylor Bears may want to meet you. We’ll be gathering at 9:30am tomorrow in Burleson Square between the playground and the detention wall.
- The PTA meeting will immediately follow. Don’t forget that we’ll be voting on snacks and naptimes. (Vote YES on both.)
Deadline: Regalia
- Baylor says, “Monday, Oct 15, 2012: Last Day to PURCHASE (but not RENT) Regalia for Dec. 2012 Commencement” So, if your bath robe is WEARING OUT, or if you like to DRESS UP like a judge on the weekends, ACT now. If you’re simply graduating, wait for the undisclosed RENT deadline.
Fall Break!
- You do not have to go to school 19-21 October because those are the official days of Fall Break. Let me see, that would be, uh, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Score.
Upcoming Events
19th Century Research Seminar, Today, 12 Oct., 3:30-4:30pm, ABL Lecture Hall
- Dr. Natalie Houston, “The Visual Page: Digital Reading and Victorian Poetry’s Cultural Codes”
- Like the “Grad Students Back the Bears” T-Shirt payment deadline of two weeks ago, this one sneaks up on you.
Gallery Talk and Reception with Artist Sedrick Huckaby, Today, 12 Oct., 5:30-7:00pm, Martin Museum of Art
- Please excuse the lack of commentary for this event. Comments in the Digest should be informative, mildly humorous, and completely non-offensive, and those high standards were unreachable in this case.
GSA Annual Tailgate Mixer, Sat., 13 Oct., The Football Game vs. TCU
- Unsatisfied with your current tailgate? Mix it up, baby. After you RSVP, of course, like they asked you to do.
- I myself was a little confused by the posted time and location, so I took the trouble to scroll down 1/12th of an inch in my inbox and find some additional information, which I’ve attached. These are the kinds of things I do for you, EGSA.
SET: Cooperative Learning, Mon., 22 Oct., 12:15-1:15pm, Jones Library Creekmore Conference Room
- Apparently there’s this new idea in education where you and your students work together to achieve certain pedagogical objectives in a reassuring environment in which everyone feels comfortable and confident. If that sounds like something you’d be interested in, you may want to reconsider your career goals. And/or attend this event. Fregister. That wasn’t funny the last time, either, and it’s probably offensive to someone. But I’m going to write it from now on anyway for the sake of brevity and convenience.
PROFF Workshop, Tues., 23 Oct., 10:30am-12:00pm, Jones Library Creekmore Conference Room
- Composing Your Curriculum Vitae and Cover Letter
- Fregister. By the way, for those of you who haven’t read the past Digests thoroughly but somehow got lost in this one and found your way to this comment, fregister means the event is free but you have to register. See how brief and convenient this is?
Sabbatical Lecture, Tues., 23 Oct., 3:30-4:30pm, CS 101
- Dr. Greg Garret, “Faithful Citizenship”
- I think that means don’t vote for Democrats, but go to the lecture to make sure.
- Not to be confused with “Faithful Abstention: What to Do When a Mormon Wins the GOP Nomination.”
Baylor Symposium on Faith and Culture, Thurs.-Sat., 25-27 Oct., Um, Baylor, I Guess
- “Technology and the Human Flourishing”
- Presumably, we’ll be discussing freshmen and smartphones.
Downton Abbey Showing and Discussion, Thurs., 25 Oct., 5:00-6:30pm, CS 101
- Note that there will be no showing and discussion on Thurs., 18 Oct., due to Fall Break.
- In case you haven’t noticed, it [Fall Break] is a pretty big deal.
I missed you, too. And no matter what’s wrong with my back, know that I’ve always got yours, EGSA.
