Upcoming Events

It’s been a fierce race. After weeks of promotion, dozens of emails, and outrageous promises of cookies and coffee, our polls have it as a statistical tie between the 19CRS and 20CRS events today. It looked like 19CRS would pull ahead after a well executed flyer campaign, but in a brilliant move at the 11th hour, 20CRS employed the red “High Importance” exclamation point in an email sent by the authority of the English Office. And that followed just on the heels of the final 19CRS reminder that, though refreshingly crisp, tragically omitted any mention of refreshments. Anything could happen now. I don’t have to remind you what’s at stake here as you choose between the two.

Or, if you walk quickly, you can just go to both.

20CRS, Today, 2:30-3:30pm, CS 4th Floor Longue

  • Dr. David Rando, “The Music of Wish Images: Filesharing and Utopia”

19CRS, Today, 3:30-4:30pm, ABL Lecture Hall

  • Ian Panth and Adina Johnson, “Transitions & Tractarianism: Kierkegaard, Gladstone, & Newman”

PROFF Workshop, Tues., 13 Nov., 1:30-5:00pm, Pat Neff 300, 105, and 107

  • “Mock Interviews”
  • A little more stressful than “Mach Interviews,” but still not as bad as real interviews. Consider fregistering.

SET, Thurs., 15 Nov., 3:30-4:30pm, No Location Posted

  • “Making the Most of the First Day of Class”
  • Pass out syllabus. Read syllabus. Solicit questions about syllabus. Try to tell a joke. Shift awkwardness back to them (make them introduce themselves in a “creative” way). Turn over syllabus to see if you missed anything. Look desperately at clock. Wish you had fregistered for this event.

Heteroglossia, Fri., 16 Nov., 12-1pm, CS 4th Floor Lounge

  • Josh Boyd writes, “Graduate students are (warmly) invited to meet in the fourth floor lounge to discuss two articles about pedagogy.”
  • Access to the two articles to be discussed is forthcoming. Not forthcoming is an explanation of why we call this thing heteroglossia.

Pumpecanfest, Sat., 17 Nov., 7pm, Womack’s

  • Pumpkins. Pecans. Voting. Prizes. You. 525 N Park Ave. Fest. The password is the name of the event, so start practicing.

That’s it. Seriously.
