EGSA Digest: Job Hunts, Bad Wine, and Nominations

April 11, 2011 EGSA Digests 0

The bluebonnets are blooming, the sun shining, the breeze playing…..and we are all hard at work on end-of-semester papers and grading. April is indeed the cruelest month for students and teachers in Texas! In this edition of the EGSA digest, your humble contributors attempt to offer some consolation for the rush and flurry of an academic spring (this applies to item #3 especially!)

#1: Adrienne Akins will be sharing her experiences and answering questions about her adventures on the Job Hunt this Wednesday, 2:00 PM, in the basement video room (G-03). We hope to see you there!

#2: We are seeking nominations for the following EGSA offices:

– Vice-President (to become President the following year) – Secretary
– Treasurer
– Peer Advisor

– Professional Development Coordinators – Technology Assistant
– GSA Alternates
– Social Chairs

– Orientation/Handbook Chair

Please email nominations to bethany_bear@baylor.edu. We will vote on these positions during the final EGSA General Meeting of the Semester in early May

#3 Bad Wine/Bad Poetry!
OUR SOCIAL CHAIRS WOULD LIKE TO ANNOUNCE EGSA’S ANNUAL BAD WINE/BAD POETRY NIGHT!!

The rules:
1. Come to Heather and Lanta’s house at 7pm Saturday, April 16 (directions to follow).
2. Bring the following: (1) a bad poem or two, either composed by you or found in the vast wasteland of bad poetry that is the internet, and (2) a bad bottle of wine, defined as a bottle that costs $5 or less. Cheese, bread, and other snacks will be provided (and will aim for being good rather than bad).
3. Invite your friends, as long as they too bring bad wine and bad poetry.
4. Prepare to vie for the prizes! (1) worst overall, (2) most pretentious, (3) worst original poem (by you), (4) worst use of rhyme, (5) most emotionally manipulative, (6) funniest, and (7)worst song lyrics or other “found poem.”

Bad Wine/Bad Poetry is an old tradition, really hilarious, and the best event your social chairs will ever plan, so YOU SHOULD ATTEND. Just ask anyone who has been 🙂
