Dear EGSA,
Please note the following dates for this month’s thrilling and edifying EGSA-related events:

October 5 (Monday, 4 PM in the ABL): Lecture by Roger Rosenblatt. Rosenblatt is the English nominee for Baylor’s Cherry Award for teaching. If he were to win the Cherry award, he would come teach at Baylor for a semester as a guest of the English department.

Wikipedia (I know, I know) summarizes his impressive career:
A Fulbright scholar with six honorary doctorates, Rosenblatt has a Ph.D. from Harvard University, where he taught writing and modern literature from 1968-73 and

he was, at age 29, the youngest House Master in Harvard’s history.[1] Roger Rosenblatt started his career in 1975 as a literary editor for The New Republic. He has also been a columnist and editor-at-large for Life magazine, the editor of U.S. News & World Report, a columnist and editorial board member of The Washington Post and editor-at-large of Time Inc.
He is known for his essays on the McNeil/Lehrer News Hour for which he won both Peabody and Emmy Awards. His Children of War, written in 1983, won the

Robert F. Kennedy book prize and has been published in many languages.[2]

As you can see, everyone in our department would benefit from working with such a distinguished writer and teacher. Hopefully, he would teach a graduate seminar during his time with the department. Thus, we really, really would like as many people as possible to come hear his lecture next Monday. Please make every effort to attend!

October 12-14 EGSA Booksale! This booksale raises most of EGSA funds, and, since we are hosting a conference this year, it is very important for the sale to go well. Our fundraising chair, Danielle, will soon be in touch with information about how you can help.

October 10 (Saturday, at Cameron Park) EGSA PICNIC! Specific times and location within Cameron Park will be announced soon.
October 23 (Friday) Graduate Student/Faculty Hamburger Dinner. Come to this happy meeting of grad students, faculty, families and food.
