EGSA Digest 11-18

November 18, 2011 EGSA Digests 0

EGSA says,

Greetings. Here is the digest a day late, hence the “whoops image.” On one hand, I hope you’re not too disappointed in me, but on the other hand I hope you were since this would mean that the digest is important to you and that you sometimes read it.
And you should be rewarded for reading, so enjoy this gossipy addition to the EGSA Digest.

     Spotted...or was he?
Rumor has it a certain teen singing phenom visited campus Friday with his Disney star girlfriend...will JB & SG (and their little dog too) be making a move for Waco in the fall? Whether he of the babyface wasactually in the neighborhood or not, one 1302 teacher wasn't taking any chances and offered her students extra credit for information about his whereabouts. Who was it? I'll never tell...xoxo

Please take note of announcement, upcoming events, and opportunities for English graduate students. SBA, Secretary

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Out of the loop? (email lists)

  • It has come to our attention that some of us have been missing English Department” emails from Lois (e.g., book sale info a couple weeks ago) and Dr. Vitanza (details on the Kopley lecture sent on Monday). If you are one such case, please email me at Sarah_Aspen@baylor.edu and I will make sure you are added to an updated email distribution list.

CHRISTMAS TEA – EGSA hosts on December 2

  • Attention all bakers! Thanksgiving hasn’t arrived yet… but Christmas is coming! EGSA has graciously volunteered to host the English Department Tea on December 2nd at 2:30 p.m. Please contact Danielle at danielle_williams2@baylor.edu if you are interested in procrastinating productively and baking or creating something fabulous for our Christmas-themed tea.

Pumplefest Success!

  • Go social chairs! Thanks to everyone who helped by baking something or showing up. A wonderful time was had by all. Pictures next week…

Book Sale Success!

  • Thanks to our Fundraising chair, Adam Marshall, for working so hard on the EGSA Book Sale. We made over $250!

More Surveys, please!

  • Thank you to everyone who filled out the survey I sent out a few weeks ago. We would still love to hear from a few more of you. The GPD and Chair are eager to hear from us in order to help improve the exit surveys when people leave the program. Names will not be passed along with opinions, so the more honest, the better. So, if you have not offered your wisdom or complaints yet, click here.

T-Shirts!

  • We still need someone to step up and volunteer to head up a T-shirt design contest. Once we have someone to organize this, we will begin soliciting designs and ideas for a 2011-2012 EGSA t-shirt. So start volunteering and/or creating some t-shirts.

The Kopley Lecture is HERE!: A Plea from Steve

  • Please Come! To the Charles G. Smith Lecture with Dr. Richard Kopley on Monday evening at 4 P.M. (CS 101, refreshments to follow upstairs). Dr. Vitanza says all Americanists and nineteenth-century scholars for sure should be there. So be there! He will tell the story of putting together his books on Poe and Hawthorne (including a touch of source studies, a bit of new historicism, a dab of theological criticism, and a healthy dose of intertextuality)…

In the Next Two Weeks (Nov 21 – Dec 4)

Charles G. Smith Lectureship Series: Dr. Richard Kopley

  • Monday, November 21 @4pm in CS 101
  • Dr. Richard Kopley’s upcoming lecture, “Adventures with Poe and Hawthorne,” may fill the gap of American Literature lovers this semester. This is the Monday of Thanksgiving week. See the attached flyer, and watch for more information. We are very excited for Dr. Kopley’s lecture, and since this lecture series is partially in response to grad student cries for Poe and Hawthorne, for great leacturers, we need to represent!
